September 2025 - Note from the Saddle Bench

Hi folks!

Got a little update on Far West Texas. The elk and aoudad hunting seasons are in full swing now.  I've seen pictures of several really nice bull elk that have been taken. I've talked to a lot of people that hear them bugling. I haven't heard them yet, but haven't really been around to listen. They are sure in good shape after the good rain this summer up higher in the mountains.  Between Fort Stockton and Marathon is pretty lush. Crazy as it seems there are still folks that haven't had much rain. We're getting down to the deadline here in the mountains while the people out in the desert flats can grow something a cow will eat anytime of the year.

We are still gathering up saddles and tack for the camps in Kerrville that lost everything. It is really inspiring to see folks donate so much to such a worthy cause. We have had saddles and tack sent from as far away as Pennsylvania. People have also sent in cash to buy tack. One person just went out and bought two saddles and two bridles and sent them. We have received a lot of trophy saddles, some brand new that will be going to Kerrville. If you have anything you want to send it's certainly not too late or if you go through the Kerrville/Ingram area you can drop them off at Double L feed store in Ingram with Trey Dittmar.

Don't forget the trappings of Texas September 19th and 20th. If you like seeing really nice cowboy gear and western art then you'll really enjoy the Trappings of Texas show.

Adios for now,

Gary Dunshee
