Howdy,
Well, things
are looking up in West Texas. It has been showering around the country. Lots of
places have had enough to kind of get the grass started. Even saw a mosquito
that wasn’t packing a canteen! I still hear from quite a few people that haven’t
had anything at all. We came back from Ruidoso Memorial Day and from Glencoe to
Artesia had a lot of rain. We heard 4 ½” in 6 hours in the Hondo Valley. Bet it
felt good to get to put a water gap back up.
The Spanish
daggers, yuccas, and chollas are putting on a show with their blooms this year.
The ocotillo bloomed more than I have ever seen. Some of them had red blooms
that went 1/3 of the way down the stalks.
Sure feel
sorry for the wildlife enduring the drouth. They suffer as much or more than anything.
People are starting to see baby antelope when they make their feed runs. The
antelope seem to be making a healthy comeback from their not so long ago
stomach bug die off. One guy told me he has found two lion kills. Both were
baby calves. That usually means there is a wildlife shortage or the lion is old
or hurt and looking for something easy to hunt. It could also be a young lion
that hasn’t learned to hunt very well yet.
Doesn’t seem
like there is any end to the border crisis. One Border Patrolman told me they
were processing 600 individuals a day at Van Horn. That’s just the ones they
caught. I have not seen anything on the news that even comes close to telling
what is going on. Glad to see Governor Abbot finally getting involved. Also
heard that some county governments are filing criminal trespass and child
endangerment charges on the ones they catch. The federal government doesn’t
seem to have any intention of trying to stop this or even slow it down. A
Border Patrolman told us that they had caught a load of illegals below
Marathon. Two of them were known cartel members and were sent back to Mexico.
The rest were turned loose.
Hope you
have a good month!
