November 2021 - Note from the Saddle Bench

 Hi Folks!

Hope all is well in your part of the woods. Most of the ranches have either finished shipping their calves or will wrap it up pretty soon. From what I have heard, most of this year's calf crop in the Trans-Pecos area mashed the scales pretty good. I helped Larry Baldwin ship his calves at the Hubbard Ranch south of Marfa last weekend. We didn't weigh them, but the general consensus was that the steers would weigh over 700 pounds. It is nice going into winter with some grass, but it is extremely dry here. Guess we shouldn't complain. I talked to Alice Moore, who ranches SE of Raton, N.M. this week. She said she thought she was doing good, she got all of her dirt tanks cleaned out this summer but didn't have a drop of water run back into them. Then her neighbor to the northeast, the TO Ranch, hard rain on Johnson Mesa that came down so hard it washed out a dam, spillway and all, then went on to wash out a bridge down the creek. It is either feast or famine so much of the time.

The girls have been busy buying up specialty items for the Christmas season. I think we have more new products than I have ever seen in the shop at one time. If you are interested in something unique, just give us a call and ask what's new for Christmas. Someone will be glad to help you. You won't find them on the website because many items are so unique we don't know if we will be able to get them again. Seems like the supply chain problems are trickling down to everyone.

Lots of hunters back in the country. Aoudad and elk hunts are in full swing. Heard of one bull elk scoring 380 points. That's a lot of elk!

We leave November 8th for the WRCA World Championships in Amarillo. Hope we see you there1 If not, have a blessed, peaceful Thanksgiving. We all have a lot to be thankful for.

Best Regards,

Gary Dunshee
