 Hi Folks!

Hope all is well in your world. It's all good out here. We had a good snow, up to 5" in places. Some places got over an inch of moisture out of it. It sure has brightened up the loco weed. The big dogs are saying that "La Nina" will go away before next summer with "El Nino" bringing us summer rains next year. Sounds promising, but I doubt many bankers will loan money with "El Nino" for collateral.

Have not seen hardly any mule deer leaving in the hunting rigs. A lot of people hunt during the management season, which coincidentally corresponds with the "rut" most years. I'm not sure if they are managing for the deer or for the hunters. Sounds like there are not many quail this year. Haven't heard of anyone getting into any big coveys.

The WRCA pachanga in Amarillo was one of the best trade shows we have been to. Tons of people showed up. Sure kept us hopping.

We received word of the passing of our good friend Alice Moore from Raton, N.M. Alice was a good friend and one of the best ranchers in New Mexico. She was voted Cattleman of the Year by the New Mexico Cattle Growers on several occasions. She raised really nice horses and was named the Reserve Remuda of the Year recipient by the AQHA. Her headquarters could have been a museum. She was a great steward of the land. We will sure miss her.

Well, Christmas is upon us. All of us elves at the shop have put on our red sock hats and are burning the midnight oil. Let us know if we can help you with your Christmas gifts. One of the new things we have added to the Store's inventory is wine from right here in Brewster County. Will and Jenny Wood's "Cathedral Mountain" Tempranillo and Rose' are in stock. Ask about our custom packed gift baskets. Most of our leather items are in stock and can be personalized in a day or so, be sure to ask about those as well!

Here's hoping you and your family have a blessed Nativity season, celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Adios for now,

Gary Dunshee

  1. Gary, thanks for the monthly newsletter. I'm stuck up here in Dallas but I enjoy hearing about conditions and whatever is going on in the West. I visited Alpine a couple years ago, spent a few days seeing the easy-to-see parts of Big Bend country, as well as Ft. Davis, McDonalds Observatory, and Balmorea. Lots of land, lots of cactus, lots of beauty. Visited your store and loved that too.

  2. I've been reading the newsletter for a few years now and it's nice to get a little plain talk and local updates free of politics. Like a
slice of sanity in an otherwise crazy world. Thank you. Hope get out that way soon.
