February 2023 - Note from the Saddle Bench

Hi Folks!

Hope all is well at your camp. Winter finally got here and we have had some not so pleasant days. Not too bad, you just don't want to be outside if you can help it. The cottonwoods are starting to bud so spring isn't far off.

The Art of the Cowgirl was quite a pachanga. Met tons of folks from Arizona, Nevada, California, Washington, Montana, Idaho, Utah, Canada, Colorado, and a few from Texas. Southern Arizona is usually a great gathering place this time of year but it was plenty chilly while we were there. It sure seemed weird scraping ice off the windshield each morning while looking at orange trees loaded with ripe oranges. The show was great and we made a lot of new friends in the ranching business. Doesn't matter what part of the country you are from or how you work your cattle, there is a common bond amongst cattle people of all kinds everywhere.

We have some new products in the works at the shop that we will be telling you about in the months to come.  Be sure to keep an eye out!

One new item is a cowboy toothpick. These are the kind you wear in your hat (maybe not really for tooth pickin'). They are made from sterling silver or gold fill. Some are twisted wire rope, some are twisted square stock. Some are plain and others have gold, silver, or brass overlays such as bronc riders, longhorns, flowers, stars, or brands. Adds a little class and customization to your hat. We have a few made up, so be sure to call us at (800)634-4502 if you need one!

We also have some Argentinian braided rawhide products being made and will have them available soon. Those guys do some unbelievable work.

Don't forget the Lone Star Cowboy Poetry Gathering here in Alpine the weekend of February 17th and 18th. It should be a good time.

Adios for now,

Gary Dunshee
