March 2023 - Note from the Saddle Bench

Hi Folks!

Hope this note finds everyone in good health and good spirits. We are trying to have some spring weather here in the Big Bend Region. It was 84 degrees on Monday. The spanish daggers are starting to bloom and the wild verbena is getting after it. The loco weed is in full bloom as well. The cotton woods along the creek beds are starting to turn green. All we lack now is a good soaking rain and the buzzards to arrive on time. They usually hit Alpine about the middle of March but it can vary a bit.

Had a really cool time with Leroy at the King Ranch. Leroy manages the horse program there. They are raising some really, really nice ranch horses. If you want a horse you can get something done on, you should consider the King Ranch. They sell a few at the "Back to the Remuda Sale" at the 6666's, but I think most are by private treaty.

We are trying to stay on top of things with our mail order business here at the shop. Starting soon, we will be offering free shipping on orders of $100 or more. We hope this helps out for those of you who can't make it in to the store to shop. Speaking of shoppers, Spring Break must have started this week. We have had people in from all over the place.

Well it won't be long 'til it's Western Heritage time in Abilene, TX. Hope you are able to make it this year. They do a good job of having something to do for everyone.

The Spring Works are right around the corner as well. If we can help you with a new rope, saddle repair, or anything else you may need, give us a call and we will get you fixed up. Hope you have a wet spring!

Adios for now,

Gary Dunshee
