February 2024 - Note from the Saddle Bench

Hi folks,

Hope you were fortunate enough to be under a cloud and get some rain the last couple of weeks. Sounds like it has rained over a good bit of most of Texas. Still nothing here in far west Texas. 

The Art of the Cowgirl was a really great show. Most of the spectators and contestants were from California, Wyoming, Montana, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Canada, and a few from Texas and New Mexico but mostly north and west. Lots of really great craftsman in the tradeshow and the competition was unlike anything I've ever seen.   

Our Sul Ross bull rider, Ky Hamilton had shoulder surgery after the NFR. It was supposed to be minor, but wound up being major so he's out of the competition for the rest of the year. We are all glad he's taking care of himself. He will get to ride a lot more bulls in the future that way.

   

Our old book inventory continues to grow. We just bought a box of Elmer Kelton books.  Mostly first editions and hardbacks.  Some are even signed. We are looking at two other collections now to buy with some really rare old ranching books among them. It gets harder and harder to find new historical ranching and cowboying books, since there are fewer, and fewer of them being written. Ed Ashurst is one of the few guys writing really good books today.    Watch for our new old books to come online here: Rare Books We will add them to the existing list of old books as we receive them. 

  

We are starting to carry more clothing in the store so be watching for the new additions there as well  Schaefer shirts are among them as well as blank denim pants.
