February 2024 - Note from the Saddle Bench

Photo Courtesy of Jill Miller, Rimrock Photography Hi folks, Hope you were fortunate enough to be under a cloud and get some rain the last couple of weeks. Sounds like it has rained over a good bit of most of Texas. Still nothing here in far west Texas. The Art of the Cowgirl was a really great show. Most of the spectators and contestants were from California, Wyoming, Montana, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Canada, and a few from Texas and New Mexico but mostly north and west. Lots of really great craftsman in the tradeshow and the competition was unlike anything I've ever seen. Our Sul Ross bull rider, Ky Hamilton had shoulder surgery after the NFR. It was supposed to be minor, but wound up being major so he's out of the competition for the rest of the year. We are all glad he's taking care of himself. He will get to ride a lot more bulls in the future that way. Our old book inventory continues to grow. We just bought a box of Elmer Kelton ...

August 2024 - Note from the Saddle Bench

Photo Courtesy of Mattie Sargent Hi folks, Hope you are having a great summer! We are still plenty dry here in Far West Texas. The last 2/3 of July have been bone dry. We've got a couple of months for it to rain and make a grass crop but I think everyone would just as soon it not wait that long. T here are lots of good folks from around the country over at the Bloys Camp Meeting now. Maybe they will get the thunderclouds stirred up. We are all for science, but in this part of the world, everyone still relies on the bent knee technique. We really had a great turnout for the chuckwagon breakfast during Viva Big Bend. We fed somewhere around 250 people. Lonnie and Paula Rodriguez really have a nice chuckwagon and Lonnie is a really good cook. I would like to thank them and all the volunteers and crew at Big Bend Saddlery that helped with the breakfast.
