Hi folks!

Hope all is well in your part of the world. We just returned last Sunday night from Abilene and the Western Heritage Classic. It was a really great show with lots of cattle people. I had a good visit with John Anderson from the Mule Shoe Ranch. John always has some really nice horses and he had some in the Western Heritage Classic Horse Sale this year. He said LJ Stovell has been riding some of his horses for him. LJ’s grandpa Bob is a good friend of mine. LJ is really handy and does a super good job training colts.

The grass was green and pretty around Abilene and they got a couple more inches of rain while we were there. Talked to a lot of people who have had good rains. I know they are thankful for the moisture, but some of it came with a lot of damage associated with it like hail and high winds. That can take all the pleasure out of a 2 inch rain. We are still dry here in west Texas although the cows seem to be holding up for as dry as it is. Jim Dyer told me they branded their calves last week and the cows were in remarkably good shape for the condition the pastures are in. No one has turned out any yearlings yet this year. It's not looking too good right now, but that can change pretty fast.

We will be taking our show booth to the AQHA Ranch Horse Versatility World Finals in Amarillo in June. If you plan on being in Amarillo during that time come by and visit. I'm sure you'll get to see some good horses work.

Don't forget the family friendly events in Alpine this summer. The Viva Big Music Festival and the WRCA sanctioned Big Bend Ranch Rodeo are both coming up.  At the Ranch Rodeo not only do you get to see cowboys from some of the most famous ranches in history but there is also a youth ranch rodeo where you can cheer on the next generation of cowhands.

Not much new here at the shop. We brought a lot of custom orders home to make from Abilene that will keep us busy this summer. We do have a new rope that people are really liking. It's a nylon poly blend four strand that is weighted. It is soft but has body enough to stand up when you are dragging calves. Give us a call if this sounds like something you could use.

Hope you have a good month and a 2 inch rain finds you wherever you are!

Adios for now
Gary Dunshee
