October 2025 - Note from the Saddle Bench

Tack Delivery to Camp LaJunta, Hunt Texas

Hi folks!

Hope all is well where you call home. We sure finished off the growing season with a good rain, the kind of moisture that put most folks over the hump. The mountains around Fort Davis have received more rain than most of the rest of the area but almost everyone has had the best year I can remember in a long time. Our local meteorologist gave West Texas a 0% chance of rain last week yet on the 6 o'clock news they had flash flood warnings for Jeff Davis County. Not sure how that works. Anyway it's been real good and we are thankful for it.

The nights have cooled off and the folks that didn't ship earlier and were able to hang on till it rained are doing so now. They are getting paid in spades now with the cattle market so high. The McKenzie Angus bull sale averaged $9,800 on the bulls and $5,200 on the heifers. I heard of some crossbred heifers Bred to akaushi bulls bringing $4,000 a head. Sure glad to see the ranchers being rewarded for their efforts. It's very seldom that way.

The Trappings of Texas show was quite a success with lots of gear makers and artists in attendance. The Museum of the Big Bend put on a really good show Thursday and Friday nights and the chuckwagon breakfast and live auction Saturday morning were a lot of fun with a lot of good gear being sold.

We delivered a load of saddles and tack to camp LaJunta in Kerrville. They had stacks and piles of saddles and tack that they drug out of the river in the flood that look like fried bacon on a saddle tree. Not much could be saved. We will be taking another load down in the near future.

Don't forget about the WRCA World Championships in Amarillo November 13th-16th. They usually have about 24 ranches representing most of the west competing in Ranch events as well as the Junior Ranch Rodeo, which may be the best watching of the two. It's amazing how handy some of those young kids are.

Also remember, it's not that long until Christmas! We are still taking orders and will be for quite a while but we really appreciate those who order early especially if you need corporate or bulk gifts. Remember if you order 20 or more of one item you get a 25% discount and if it's leather, we can put your logo on or whatever you need.

And last, but certainly not least we would like to congratulate coach C.J. Aragon at Sul Ross on his induction into the Idaho rodeo Hall of Fame. C.J. is a great coach and a good man. We are sure glad he likes to call Alpine home.

Hope y'all have a good month. Adios for now.
