November 2025 - Note from the Saddle Bench

Hi folks,

Well it finally got cold. We have had a real light frost or two. The grass is pretty much yellow. Some of the trees still have some green leaves, but I think everything has pretty much shut down for the winter. It seems like the Mule deer season started awfully early this year. I'm not sure if the big buck pictures I'm seeing online are the results of the management hunts or just what's going on but it looks like the season has started at any rate.

Well, the cattle markets are down, but not much. Cattle prices are still really, really good. It's probably a blessing that the prices came down some to keep us from having a total crash later on. I hope everyone's getting healed up with these good prices.

We have started loading the trailer to go to the WRCA World Championship Ranch rodeo in Amarillo this coming weekend. The rodeo starts Thursday night and ends Sunday evening. I hope you can make it. It's a real first class deal with a really, really good tradeshow.

Also, don't forget here in Alpine. We have Art Walk on November. As usual, we will have Wayne Baize, Mike Capron, Randy Glover and Jean Cornell exhibiting at the Saddle Shop. Come on out whether you need any artwork or not ,we sure have a good time just visiting, and we might serve you a glass of wine.

Speaking of wine, lots of folks don't know all of the new and different items we carry at Big Bend Saddlery. One of those being really good wine. We carry the Cathedral Mountain wines from right here south of Alpine also the Wild Texas Wine from Sonora, Texas. They don't make any wine whose fruit is not found on the ranch. And don't forget we carry Bill Ivey's coffee with their signature roast the Terlingua blend.  If you'd like to make a Thanksgiving or Christmas gift basket up, we have the baskets and the goodies to put in them everything from napkins, tea towels, coffee, wine, candy, and jerky, to plates, dishes, and cups.

I also want to mention that we have Johny Weyerts' engraving book for sale in the store. If you or someone you know are looking to improve their skills, this book is one of the best.

If we can be of any help to you for your Christmas giving just give us a call. We will talk to you next month.

Adios for now.
