Hi folks,
Hope everyone's getting the good rains that we got here in far West Texas last week. We were hot and dry through the middle of the summer then along towards the end of September we started getting some showers. They were still spotty, but I think everyone has had good showers on most of their country. We had a couple of inches last week. The country really looks good. Maybe this is our year to get turned around.
The elk hunters have been doing really well. I've seen pictures of lots of six by sixes and better. I've been told that the black bear in northern New Mexico are really doing well. So well that they're permitting people to shoot them without a license. They say they're rather aggressive too because of the dry weather. One Ranch in northern New Mexico told me they had some hunters that hunted three days and saw 15 bears in three days. They may have seen some of the same bear twice, but that's still a lot of bears.
Most folks around here are either shipping their calves now or have already shipped them. They ought to ring the bell with them this year.
We are looking forward to the WRCA World championships in Amarillo next month. If you've never been, you need to get on up there, it is really a good time. Not many places you can go and see that many ranchers and cowboys.
Christmas orders are starting to come in at the Saddle Shop. If there's anything we can help you with in the way of Christmas gifts for family friends or business just let us know. We have already started doing some of the corporate Christmas gifts this year. We are doing lots of catchalls and notepads as well as other things for the corporations to give to their customers. Let us know if there's anything we can do for you.
Don't forget my buddy Red Steagall's Big Pechanga in Fort Worth this weekend. It's always a big time but this year they will have a entire program around the new Red Steagall Institute that is being built at the national Ranching Heritage Center on the Texas Tech campus in Lubbock. Hope you can attend.
I also wanted to tell you about the Jeff Bezos organization. They have four Sul Ross rodeo kids who are recent graduates working for them now. They recently paid a visit to the Sul Ross rodeo club and tell them that they were exceptionally happy with the four employees out of rodeo coach CJ Aragon's rodeo program and that any of the current rodeo kids upon graduation had a job with their organization if they want it. I think that speaks volumes for the job that CJ Aragon is doing with the rodeo kids at Sul Ross.
Hope you have a good month!
Gary Dunshee
